Article: Reflections on Embracing the Mature Feminine

Reflections on Embracing the Mature Feminine

On Wednesday May 10, our community from all corners of the globe gathered for ‘Embracing the Maturing Feminine’, hosted by our founder Montana Lower and Holistic Counsellor and Transpersonal Birth Mentor Aimee Aroha. It was a transformative and empowering experience listening to Aimee and Mon speak, providing a sacred space for our community to connect with their true selves, embrace their changing bodies, and reclaim their innate wisdom and power. Still feeling energised from the insight we’ve gained, and wanting to continue these important discussions, we’ve put together a recap and reflection on the global gathering.

"Everything that happens to a woman's body is a reflection of what happens to the earth."
~ AIMEE AROHA

Within each woman resides a deep longing to reconnect with her authentic nature, to fully embrace the ebb and flow of her inner seasons, and to honour the transformations occurring within her body, mind, and soul. By embracing the mature feminine a person strives to embody healthy expression, is encouraging of others, is emotionally balanced and intuitive, keeps healthy boundaries, asks for what they want, and is energetically open to/knows their power. Try to keep these things in mind in your everyday practises and rituals.

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS TO DEEPEN YOUR KNOWLEDGE

Books are a portal, a gateway to further exploration into embracing the mature feminine. Our community knows the importance of collective wisdom and the power of shared knowledge, and so we’ve put together a collection of books, each offering a unique perspective on embracing womanhood, self-discovery, and the cycles of life. We hope you enjoy these literary gems and continue to foster knowledge and honour your journey into the mature feminine.

The Beauty Myth ~ Naomi Wolf
The beauty myth - an obsession with physical perfection that traps the modern woman in an endless spiral of hope, self-consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society's impossible definition of "the flawless beauty." In today's world, women have more power, legal recognition, and professional success than ever before, however, Wolf reveals how beauty standards have been constructed as a means of control, affecting gender equality.  It's a best-selling classic that redefined our view of the relationship between beauty and female identity.
Reclaiming Childbirth as a Rite of Passage ~ Rachel
It’s time for a childbirth revolution. The modern approach to maternity care fails women, families and care providers with outdated practices that centre the needs of institutions rather than individuals.  Rachel Reed weaves ancient wisdom, history, science and research with the experiences of women and care providers to create a holistic, evidence-based framework for understanding birth,  requiring us to recognise that mothers own the power and expertise when it comes to birthing their babies.
Her Blood is Gold ~ Lara Owen
We menstruate more now than at any time in human history. Girls are starting to menstruate earlier due to protein-rich diets and hormones in food; women are less likely to die young; we have fewer children and therefore spend less time not menstruating. Increased work and family stresses, in addition to more periods, mean that women are more physically and psychologically vulnerable to negative attitudes to menstruation. Owen invites readers to reframe their understanding of menstruation, viewing it as a source of empowerment and connection to the cycles of nature,  recognising the inherent value and beauty in their bodies' natural rhythms.

Other great reads
Daring Greatly ~ Brene Brown, The Week Before I Bleed ~ KJ Stone, Vagina ~ Naomi Wolf, Shakti Woman ~ Vicki Noble,

Women Who Run With the Wolves ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estés
