Article: Why Native Ingredients = Self Love and True Sustainability

Why Native Ingredients = Self Love and True Sustainability

From seed to skin, we’ve worked to minimise the impact on our planet by only using pure, potent and locally sourced ingredients. We are so fortunate and privileged to exist on the beautiful lands of Australia where we are able to draw from ancient wisdom and traditional practices to present a skincare line that encourages self love and true sustainability. It’s integral that we pay deep respects to the original custodians of these lands, which is why we believe it is important to work with and alongside First Nations farmers. Our Finger Limes and Kakadu Plums are native to Australia, and who better to trust and rely on to preserve and sustain our fruit and land than those who have already been doing so for millenia?

INGREDIENT SPOTLIGHT

THE HERO NATIVES IN OUR SELF LOVE RITUAL

KAKADU PLUM
(GUBINGE)

Growing wild in abundance across Australia’s harsh northern wilderness, the Gubinge (Kakadu Plum) has been isolated and undisturbed in these pristine ecosystems for centuries. This has allowed the Kakadu Plum to develop complex adaptive skills to survive in extreme conditions of heat, drought, UV exposure, high winds and floods. This ensures only pure, potent and abundant phyto-actives are utilised in our plant potions.

There is no wonder the Kakadu Plum is considered the ‘Gift of the Dreamtime’,  as Aboriginal communities have been harvesting Kakadu Plums for thousands of years for the ancient super fruit boasts powerful nutritional and medicinal benefits. The Gubinge is known as the world’s richest source of Vitamin-C, and for its huge stores of antioxidants and Polyphenols.

The Kakadu Plums used in our Vitamin-C serum have been wild harvested by the Bardi people in northern WA. Not only is the Kakadu Plum important for the health and wellbeing of the Bardi people, and an important commercial commodity, but it has strong cultural relevance for their families. Working with and alongside the Bardi people ensures proper land management for a sustainable future within their sacred forests, but also fosters social and economic empowerment for future generations.

FINGER LIME
(GUALUNG)

The Gualung (Finger Lime) are grown locally and are native to the rainforests of the border ranges of SE Queensland and Northern NSW, Australia. Finger Limes have been harvested by the Bundjalung peoples for thousands of years for their healing and antiseptic properties. Finger Limes are abundantly rich in tryptophan, ferulic acid, amino and organic acids, limocitrin and more. These pure and potent phyto-compounds are known for their barrier function support to aid in dehydration and reactive skin conditions.

The benefits of Finger Lime being native to our backyard, where they’re harvested and processed only a little drive from where we formulate and bottle our products, means we have been able to create close relationships with the farmers who hand pick this superfruit. This also provides the freshest quality available for your plant potions.

Utilising locally grown and native ingredients, like the Finger Lime, ensures we can continue to practise small batch production. This reduces the strain and demand on local farms, ensuring the health and safety of the crops, and also embracing traditional land management practices.
