InBluem Series: Anastasia Vanderbyl

The INBLUEM Series delves into the hearts and minds of beautifully inspiring souls who explore their journeys of growth, Self Love, and vibrant connection. We are so excited to share with you our latest in the series; the incredible Anastasia Vanderbyl, regenerative farmer, conscious fashion designer and one half of the sister duo behind Mother the Mountain. Anastasia and her sister Julia are not only stewards of the land in which they live in harmony with, but creators of a digital sanctuary that inspires us to reconnect with nature.

At the core of Anastasia’s work is a philosophy of regeneration, zero-waste living, and a commitment to giving back to the earth more than one takes. This ethos shines through in her practice and pieces, which are crafted using discarded fabrics and ancient techniques. She views waste not as a burden but as an opportunity to reimagine the future of fashion through a lens of sustainability and creativity.

My name is Anastasia and this is me, INBLUEM:

"I'm a regenerative farmer and fashion designer. To me, being ‘in bloom’ isn't so much about yourself. It's about your impact on the world around you. It is to always give more than you take. Like water returning to the sea or flower who gives their seeds to the wind.

In my work I tend to the land regeneratively using ancient knowledge to reimagine the future. As I witness the beauty of the native rainforest returning, I realized that fashion can be regenerative too. So I apply these same principles to how I create reimagining the fashion industry through a lens of hope. Using scraps of discarded fabrics, I see waste as not a problem, but a solution.

By utilizing forgotten crafts, I connect with an old way of being, with the simplicity of using my hands, and by designing in a way that honours the earth. I aim to always create more than I consume.

This is what it means to be INBLUEM; to give so that your ripples of care can spread outwards."

Beyond the digital realm, Anastasia and her sister have published a book: Mother the Mountain: The Art of Living with Nature, which delves into their intimate journey of regenerative living. It chronicles their survival through climate disasters and the resilience they discovered in nurturing the land. Their book is beacon of hope, showing that regenerative practices and a deep love for the earth can be transformative, both personally and environmentally - we can't recommend it enough for your reading list.
