COORONG LAKES ~ BIODIVERSITY & CONSERVATION

The Coorong Lakes Biodiversity project focuses on restoring and preserving the iconic and essential Coorong Lakes ecosystem in South Australia. This project protects 34,391m2 of land and the region's biodiversity, including endangered species such as the orange-bellied parrot and hooded plover. 

WHY WE FUND THIS PROJECT:

Part of South Australia’s Limestone Coast, this region features some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes. It is, however, an area at risk and in recent years land surrounding these national treasures has been cleared for agriculture and is under increasing threat of degradation.

- Reconnecting habitat to promote animal movement to improve the health of isolated populations

- Partnering with the Ngarrindjeri people to use traditional knowledge of land management.

- Protecting over 30,000 square metres of critical habitat and biodiversity within the wetland system.

COOL FIRE TRADITIONAL LAND MANAGEMENT

Australia

The Arnhem Land Cool Fire project is a critical conservation initiative that involves Indigenous land managers using traditional fire management practices to reduce the risk of unpredictable, catastrophic fires in Northern Australia outside of bushfire season. In addition, we're proud to support the preservation of Indigenous culture and the protection of biodiversity in Northern Australia. 

WHY WE FUND THIS PROJECT

The Arnhem Land Cool Fire project is led by Indigenous communities and uses traditional fire management practices that are thousands of years old, resulting in a world-renowned system that reduces carbon emissions and protects biodiversity.

- Reduces destruction of vegetation and habitat for essential native species from unmanaged fire seasons

- Manages five fire projects across an area of 80,000 square metres

- Supporting local Aboriginal communities in returning to, remaining on, and managing their country

Nepal

The Nepal Clean Cookstoves project is a crucial initiative that promotes the use of and provides efficient cookstoves in Nepal. These stoves are designed to reduce emissions from traditional wood-burning stoves, which have a significant impact on both public health and the environment as well as reducing pressure on finite, natural resources.This project helps prevent 56,000 tonnes of CO2e from being released into the atmosphere, every single year.

194,000+ people have access to clean, reliable and sustainable cookstoves

70% reduction of indoor smoke pollution

Empowers women and children to pursue activities other than collecting wood for cooking

Local business and employment opportunities are created due to the need for personnel to distribute and maintain the new stoves
