Article: Seeress of Light

Seeress of Light

We sit down with Amy Catania to discover gentle insights on awakening your inner wisdom and living authentically.

As we well know, the journey of self-love is not linear. And as this wisdom lands deeper and deeper in my body, I find myself increasingly curious about the uneven terrain that both leads us toward, and strips us back to, something closer to our most authentic self.

In an age where it feels like every second person has adopted the title of “healer”—where a weekend course can confer the language of mastery—I find myself less interested in labels, and more attuned to something far less tangible. Something that can’t be studied into existence. The kind of magic that shows up uninvited in a conversation, as goosebumps, as a buttery relaxationclaude in the body, as a deep and resounding yes in an involuntary exhale.

On my own journey home to myself, I sought support through energy therapy with Amy from Seeress of Light. I had long admired her presence online, something about the way she spoke felt both grounded and otherworldly at once. Eventually I thought, simply: why not see for myself?

After what can only be described as a deeply life-affirming session, I sat down with Amy to ask her questions about the path that led her here—into her work, her gifts, and the responsibility of holding space for others in this way.

Amy is an International Psychic Medium, Energy Therapist and Spiritual Mentor and perhaps most important of all, a mother. In this interview series, I sit down and ask her about her relationship to intuition and how you can strengthen yours too.

  • When did you first recognise your gift, and what did that awakening feel like in your body?

I first recognised my gift when I was quite young. At that time in my life, it felt like fear. Fear of the unseen, the unknown, and the conditioned belief surrounding the negatives of connecting with energy or the Spirit world. I shut it down. I turned it off like a switch. I chose not to interact with the thoughts or feelings about seeing or understanding the world differently from others, and I did my best to fit in. It wasn't until I became a mother that I began to open up to my gifts and abilities. It became an initiation in itself. Honouring my children meant honouring myself, which meant no longer hiding the parts of me that I was ashamed of or fearful of. This awakening felt like curiosity and excitement; I became eager to learn, evolve, and experience life as my most authentic self.

  • I’ve come to understand intuition as both a felt and a learned skill. How do you discern between your own thoughts, emotions, and intuitive guidance - and how do you know you’re not simply imagining it?

Trust is a necessary attribute when learning to distinguish between intuitive messages and your own thoughts and feelings. We all have the power of intuition. However, many of us do not trust ourselves enough to believe in our ability to connect beyond our rational human minds. When working with energy and spirit, we must have an open mind and open heart - we must understand that not everything is required to make sense in order to be right. Some things are and always will be beyond logic. After all how can we explain the reason behind our existence?

Same goes for when I work with clients, when I feel a familiar emotion, such as sadness or grief - I recognize it because I have felt it. However, I can separate it from myself because I trust that the session is never about me; it is about the person I am connected with, who has trusted me to support them in that moment.

It has taken a lot of practice, many harsh life lessons and a lot of letting go to be able to trust myself so deeply.

Letting go of friendships and connections that forced me to abandon myself,
Letting go of social ideals of what is or isn't "normal" or "right."

Learning that everyone will have an opinion whether they agree or not - so do what you want to do regardless
Learning that people can only meet you as deeply as they have met themselves—don't force someone to see life as you do

Practice your ability to know what your heart is whispering - through writing, prayer, or connecting to nature and music.
Practice what you preach: integrity and radical honesty are the most important qualities to hold in life. Not for others but for yourself and your peace.

  • For someone wanting to strengthen their intuition, what would you suggest as a gentle first step?

Learn to be by yourself. Many cannot sit in quiet or stillness. It goes against the conditioning of always having to prove your worth by what you do or what you give. But to hear your intuition - you must be comfortable in the nothingness. You must be able to listen without noise or distractions.
Leave your phone at home. Pick up a pen and a journal. Go to the ocean. The forest. The creek. Ask your heart to be the guide.
And continue to commit to this relationship with yourself. Slowly, without realizing, you will begin to know yourself. You will begin to trust your true voice. Not the voice of others. And that is how your intuition will become stronger and easier to hear.

  • Your work invites a deep sensitivity to energy, as if touching beyond the physical veil. how do you honour your boundaries while remaining soft and open? is there a practice that supports you?

Working with energy and Spirit requires a lot of  downtime. Honoring the necessary recovery after working with clients has been and still is a difficult process. I am challenging the current expectations of hustle culture - always being available, always being on, always creating. I simply can not do that without experiencing negative consequences to my overall health and wellbeing.
And just like with humans, my boundaries are just as necessary with Spirit. I am not always available to Spirit. I cannot give away more than I have. And I am not always on or open to communicate.

Energy sickness is a real thing I have to contend with. If I do give away more than I have energetically, I experience real physical illness that can take a day or two to recover from.

Intentional practices when I work with energy and with Spirit are required to support me and also those I am working with.
I must be grounded to this earthly realm to be able to open up to the unseen realms. This requires hydrating both my body and my skin.
I do not use anything that clouds my senses with heavy fragrances or chemicals. My nervous system requires the feeling of safety and connection. I work in a very softly lit space that ive created to feel like a peice of me. Yet, the most important thing to me is being connected to mother earth. She gives me what I can not give myself. I rely on her to remain open and soft - swimming in the ocean, laying on the earth. Refueling my spirit with energy and belief. It is a daily practice I commit to. I give back to her with prayer and offerings to show appreciation and gratitude for her medicine and support.

  • Have you ever experienced a moment where intuition spoke louder than logic? what did it ask of you?

The journey to get to where I am today required me to throw all logic out the window.

I started this journey through wanting to help others with their mental health. I suffered deeply with my own mental health as a teenager and survived moments that many people in my local community did not. I felt an urgency to do something

I really felt that if i could get through what I did, others could too. However, instead of facing it alone as I had done, I wanted to support others on their journey toward self-healing.

I decided to enrol in a Masters of Holistic Counselling. It combined traditional counselling methods with an integrative approach focusing on mind-body connection and autonomic nervous system healing. As I finished the course, I felt an intense knowing that healing involved more than just traditional talk therapy. That our bodies—our muscle, fascia, and energy—held the emotions and experiences of trauma deeper than thought or memory.

So, although I had just spent over four years studying, I was being asked to follow this deep and undeniable knowing that I had more to learn. That counselling wasn't all there was for me. I followed my intuition, which led me to energy healing.

I discovered the beautiful traditional Japanese Usui Reiki Healing system. Created by Mikao Usui it is over a century old. It is a gentle yet effective method that encourages and supports mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual healing and enlightenment by moving and releasing stagnant and built up energy throughout the body by using various hand and symbol placements.

During my training, I slowly discovered my ability to accurately feel, see and know what the person in front of me had experienced over time. Where they held their anger, happiness, grief, and sorrow. I could feel where stress was building and forming physical illness or pain. Their loved ones who had passed would visit and send messages. Spirit Babies came to reassure their mothers that they were on their way, or why they were not able to be physically born. It was an intense yet sacred initiation into the work I am doing now as a Psychic Medium.

My intuition led me to a purpose much greater than I could ever imagine. If I had used only logic and reasoning, I know I would have never experienced or encountered all of the beautiful souls I have supported over the years.

  • You give so much of yourself to the world - what is your favourite way to receive care and show yourself love?

Honestly, a sleep in, a quiet morning with a hot cup of tea, a swim in the ocean and time to be with myself is how I show myself love and care.
I am a very simple human being.

  • What are some common misconceptions people hold about intuitive work or energy healing?

Some common misconceptions people hold against intuitive work is that it is dangerous and something to fear. But I always believe that the intention behind what you are doing, and why you are doing it, is what matters most.
ill intent in any industry causes harm. Pure intentions—intentions to be in service to others and to help others on their life journeys—will only create experiences of positivity and empowerment.

I also see commonly that highly intuitive people are suppose to have the answers to everything.
The lotto numbers
The reason the world is in its current state
Why people get sick
or why things didnt go the way the "should" have.
I also often experience others wanting to know into someone else's life that is not their own. And while yes we can do this, there are many unspoken moral codes of inutives that must be followed to protect ourselves and anothers free will.

Ultimately, it is far more complex than these misconceptions suggest.
As an intuitive who practices with high morality and integrity, I choose only to communicate and connect to the energy of what is in the highest and greatest good for those I support.

  • What is the greatest joy you experience through sharing your gifts with others?

The greatest joy I experience through sharing my gifts with others is being able to provide  a place of connection and safety that allows people to unmask and show up as who they truly are and not who they need to be in this world to survive. When someone thanks me for allowing them to shed their tears that have been held up for years, when someone thanks me for connecting them to their grandfather, when someone thanks me for reminding them how capable they are to do what they want to do or be who they want to be - it breaks open my heart every time.

  • Many healers, creatives and mothers (I would say mothering is inherently the first two haha) struggle with monetising their gifts and sustaining themselves through their work. what has your journey with this been like?

I can admit that this is one of the most challenging parts of my journey. Blending motherhood with the demands of being a creative and working as an intuitive is no easy task.

When creativity asks for time and space, and intuition calls for quiet and regulation, one might ask how the two can coexist.
But it can. With practice, patience, and support, it can.

I have always been someone who never asked for help. Hyperindependence was the badge of honor I wore since childhood.
And at the beginning of my motherhood journey, I continued to wear that badge. If things were done my way, they were done right and everyone was safe.

It wasn't until I began working in this field that I understood this way of thinking and acting was actually unsustainable and unhealthy.
For me, my health, my relationships, and my children.

When I was able to share the responsibilities—through childcare, mainstream school, grandparents, uncles and aunties—I was able to focus on me. I was able to breathe and create time to focus on my work. Was it my ideal picture? No. However, learning to let go of the idea of what it is supposed to look like and becoming more flexible in how it can be helped me grow and evolve exponentially.

This allowed me to build upon my business and share my gifts with others that supported them - but also supported me and my family financially during the time spent away from my chidlren. Does the maternal guilt leave? Not completely. However, I have  come to witness that children are so are resiliant and when they are provided with strong, healthy emotional foundations and attachments in the home - their ability to thrive in environments outside of the home is truly incredible.

  • Which inbluem ritual resonates most deeply with you, both physically and energetically

I integrate finger lime into my daily morning routine. It hydrates my skin, yet it also energetically soothes me. I find it very grounding.
I also love to carry around the beautiful Hydrosoul toning mist in my bag. When I need a pick me up, or I'm feeling energetically low - it instantly revitlizes me and leaves me skin looking plump and refreshed.
