Potent Australian Botanicals: The Bluem Ingredients Glossary

Drawing from ancient wisdom and traditional practices, our powerful plant potions aim to encourage self love and synergistic healing with the Earth. From seed to skin, we’ve worked to minimise the impact on our planet by only using pure, potent and locally sourced ingredients while tracing the supply chain to ensure ethical and sustainable harvest practices are emphasised throughout our entire production line. We are so grateful to live, work and create in such an abundant country filled with ancient wisdom. Because of this, we are in the Privileged position of using the finest Australian native ingredients; used for thousands of years for their unique potency and abundance of healing and skin-loving benefits:

Finger Limes (Gulalung), also known as caviar limes, are wondrously unique citrus fruits native to the rainforests of South East Queensland and Northern NSW, Australia; where Bluem’s headquarters are based. Armed with ancient botanical wisdom, Indigenous peoples have harvested Finger Limes for thousands of years for their healing and antiseptic properties. These potent fruits are abundantly rich in Tryptophan (acting as a building block for proteins, which are essential for maintaining skin structure and elasticity), Limocitrin (a powerful anti-inflammatory phytonutrient with properties that may help soothe and calm irritated skin), Flavone-C-Glycoside (a potent phytonutrient that has been shown to possess antioxidant properties) and more. These active phytocompounds are known for their anti-inflammatory capabilities, aiding in supporting weakened skin barriers and reactive skin conditions.

The Kakadu Plum (Gubinge), a superfruit native to northern Australia, boasts an impressive nutritional profile (including one of the highest recorded concentration of Vitamin C in the natural world) that can aid with skin health. This ancient fruit thrives in harsh conditions, undisturbed in the pristine ecosystems of the Northern Territory and northern Western Australia for centuries has allowed the Kakadu Plum to develop complex adaptive skills to survive in extreme conditions of heat, drought, UV exposure, high winds and floods. Aboriginal communities have been harvesting Kakadu Plums for thousands of years for their powerful nutritional and medical benefits. These Australian superfruits are rich in potent phytonutrients such as vitamin C (a potent antioxidant that may aid shielding your skin from environmental damage and promoting a youthful appearance by supporting healthy collagen creation and regulating melanin production), Gallic Acid (phenolic acid and potent antioxidant, a beneficial compound that may help shield the skin from environmental stressors that contribute to the appearance of ageing) and Flavone-C-Glycoside (a powerful phytonutrient that has been shown to possess antioxidant properties, potentially helping shield the skin from environmental aggressors that contribute to visible signs of ageing), and more.

Eucalyptus Radiata, commonly known as peppermint gum, is a fast-growing Australian native tree. We source ours from a bio-organic farm for maximum purity.  Eucalyptus Radiata is known for containing monoterpenes with potential antibacterial and antifungal properties, while the presence of flavonoids contributes to its antioxidant activity. This translates to a refreshing and invigorating addition to our Hydrosoul Cleansing & Toning Mist.
Daylesford spring water stands as a top-tier natural spring water sourced from the mineral-rich aquifers within the Daylesford region, nestled in Dja Dja Wurrung country, located in Victoria’s Central Highlands. This area boasts the largest concentration of natural mineral springs across Australia. As the water filters naturally through layers of volcanic rock before reaching the aquifer, it acquires a distinctive mineral composition. This includes elevated levels of calcium, magnesium, and potassium, contributing to its premium quality. This spring water is one of the reasons our Hydrosoul Cleansing & Toning Mist is so special.

Our Organic Macadamia oil is a luxurious, golden, raw cold pressed oil extracted from the nuts of the macadamia tree (Macadamia integrifolia and Macadamia tetraphylla), native to Australia and sourced from Northern NSW, close to the Bluem headquarters. Macadamia oil’s low comedogenic rating poses minimal risk of pore-clogging, and is moisturising and nourishing for the skin due to its fatty acid profile which consists of: Oleic acid (omega 9) to help lock in moisture and maintain a healthy skin barrier, Palmitoleic acid (omega-7) which plays a role in skin barrier integrity and potentially offers anti-inflammatory effects, as well as Linoleic acid (LA) (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) (omega-3) which may aid in reducing inflammation, perfect for our nourishing Buddhawood Face & Body Oil.

Our organic Hemp seed oil, also known as hemp oil, is a raw cold pressed oil extracted from the seeds of the Cannabis Sativa plant from Northern NSW and is found in our rejuvenating Buddhawood Face & Body Oil. Hemp seed oil’s high content of Omega-3 and 6, as well as oleic acid contributes to its emollient properties, helping seal moisture in the skin and potentially improving hydration. The presence of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and potential anti-inflammatory properties suggest it may soothe irritated skin. Its low comedogenic rating makes it generally suitable for most skin types, with low risk of pore-clogging potential. Vitamin E content offers potential antioxidant protection against free radical damage, contributing to improved skin health.

Eremophila Mitchellii, commonly known as Buddha Wood or False Sandalwood, is a small tree or large shrub native to the arid regions sourced sustainably and ethically from south east Queensland. Studies suggest the presence of monoterpenes like alpha-pinene, limonene, and myrcene. These compounds contribute to the essential oil’s aroma and may possess some antibacterial and antifungal properties - found in our beautiful Buddhawood Face & Body Oil
